What is the best accounting software for a small business in the UK?

I’ve just started a small business in the UK and have been using Excel for everything. Now, it’s getting messy and difficult to keep track. Can anyone recommend good accounting software for a complete beginner like me?

I’d definitely move away from Excel now if things are getting messy. For a complete beginner in the UK, you can opt for FreeAgent, QuickBooks, Xero or Sage. Personally, I’d recommend FreeAgent. It’s pretty easy to get your head around and covers invoicing, expenses, tax, VAT, etc.
QuickBooks is another good beginner-friendly option, while Xero is worth considering if you expect the business to grow more. Just make sure whatever you choose supports Making Tax Digital, so you don’t have to switch again later.

For a small business in the UK, Xero, QuickBooks, Zoho Books, Sage, and FreeAgent are all good options. The right choice depends on your budget and what you need the software to do. For example, Xero and QuickBooks are great all-rounders, while Zoho Books is a good choice for businesses looking for an affordable and easy-to-use solution.
