You only have to provide your wi-fi information:
  • Go to Settings on Roku.Access Roku Settings.
  • Select Network.
  • Choose Set up connection.
  • Select Wireless.
  • Discover how to locate your home wireless network.
  • Enter the password.
  • Wait for the connection to complete.
Note that this password is case-sensitive: enter it correctly.

It’s pretty simple. On your Roku, press Home, then Settings, Network, Set up connection, Wireless. Click on your WiFi network name, enter your password and click Connect. Roku should now connect itself. If your network is not detected, click on “Scan again.”

Last summer, we had our Roku streaming stick taken to a holiday home which we were unable to get to work with a guest WiFi!

They need to log in to their web browser at the hotel... or wherever. It seems hotel and rental companies require web browser login... or anywhere else. Roku actually has a nice plan on this as well (when selecting the network put in 'I am at a hotel or dorm', and it will let you login via your phones web browser).

In the home environment it is easier still: it is a thing of Settings > Network > Set up connection > Wireless, then input the password and you're done.

Click on Settings > Network > WireLess/Wired.

If you have a Roku Ultra, you can connect an RJ45 Ethernet cable directly to have no packet drop at all.

For Wi-Fi devices (Express, Streaming Stick), Roku automatically picks up signals on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands (802.11ac).

If your SSID is not broadcasting, check to ensure that your router is not set to only broadcast on DFS channels (channels 52-144), because there are Roku chipsets that won't negotiate the DFS channel. Roku then conducts an auto-negotiation session for a successful connection.
