How to add sounds to Discord soundboard?

Hey everyone,
I’m trying to add some custom sounds to my server's Soundboard, but I'm running into some issues and can't seem to get the upload to work. I know how to play the default sounds in voice channels, but when it comes to adding my own audio clips, I'm getting stuck. Can anyone help?

To do this, you need to be running Discord on your PC. If you are on mobile, you can only hear it but can’t play it. Also, it is a slot system, so the more server boosters you have the more sounds you can add. Just go to the soundboard option in your Discord and add a sound.

You will find the soundboard option in the bottom right of your Discord page. But if you can't find an option to add a sound, you need more server boosters. For this, you either need the Nitro subscription or need to purchase them directly.

Adding custom sounds is super fun! Just make sure you have the right server permissions first.
  • Right-click your server icon and select Server Settings.
  • Click Soundboard from the left menu.
  • Hit Upload Sound, choose your MP3 file, pick an emoji, and you are all set!
You can only do this on your PC.

When I was learning more about discord, I realized that uploads mainly fail for a few reasons like file, permission or slots.

Here are the requirements you need to follow
🎵 File: MP3 or OGG
📦 File size: Maximum 512 KB
⏱️ Duration: Maximum 5.2 seconds
🔐 Permission: Create Expressions required
👑 Server Owner: Has this permission automatically
🎛️ Slots: 8 custom sounds on an unboosted server
🚀 Server Boosts: More boosts increase the soundboard slot limit.

Follow these steps to upload the sound: Server Settings > Soundboard > Upload Sound on desktop or browser, add a name to the sound and an emoji, and save it so that you can play it.

Uploading is not allowed on mobile.

1. Open Discord on desktop/browser.
2. Right-click your server icon.
3. Go to Server Settings → Soundboard.
4. Click Upload Sound.
5. Choose an MP3 or OGG file (under 512 KB, around 5 seconds).
6. Give it a name and choose an emoji.
7. Click Save.

If “Upload Sound” is missing: You may need Create Expressions permission, or your Soundboard slots may be full.
