How often is PIP paid?

I've recently had my Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claim approved, but I'm a bit confused about the exact payment schedule and how the dates work going forward. I've received my decision letter, but I want to make sure I understand how to budget properly around it.

PIP is typically paid every four weeks directly into your bank account, usually on the same day of the week. If you're terminally ill, it can be paid weekly instead.

You can expect PIP payments in your registered accounts every 4 weeks. Your decision letter will state the date of your first payment. Also, any back pay you are owed usually arrives as a separate lump sum before then.

Your decision letter outlines your first payment date and regular weekday schedule. But as a rule of thumb:
  • Standard schedule is paid monthly directly into your bank or building society account.
  • Terminal illness exceptions are paid weekly in advance.
