How do Discord servers work?

Unlike any other platform there is, Discord, to me, feels a bit more complex to understand. I'm trying to learn more about how Discord servers work. How to become a member of one, and why do a lot of servers have rules? If, for example, I am removed from one server, does that mean I lose my account?
 
Discord servers are more like small pockets of communities within the Discord platform. If you are looking to join a Server, you need to click on the invite link sent to you. And, they have rules to keep chats safe and on-topic. And don't worry; if you get removed from a server, you only lose access to that specific community, not your entire Discord account.
 
Discord servers are invite-only virtual communities more like digital clubhouses. Each server is organised into specific text and voice channels for chatting, sharing media, or gaming. Server owners create rules and assign roles to members, granting different permissions, such as moderating chats or accessing private VIP channels to keep things organised.
 
Discord servers are a better version of Facebook groups. Here, communities hang out, text, voice chat, and game together in dedicated channels!
