Can you unarchive a story on Instagram?

To put in simpler terms, you can't simply "unarchive" an Instagram story. The story you put remains live for 24 hours after which they vanish and go into the archives. What you can do is repost it as a new story or put it in the highlights section.

Instagram doesn't provide an unarchive option for stories. However, if you want to use a story that you had previously posted, you can simply go to the Instagram archives and reshare the post.

Hey! Yeah, you totally can. Just go into your profile, tap those three little lines in the top corner, and hit Archive. You'll find all your old stories tucked away safely. From there, you can save them, reshare a fun memory, or pin them right to your highlights. Easy peasy!

For an archived story asset, technically, the 24-hour ephemeral lifecycle can't be restarted. The media is still stored in Instagram's private archive, however.

Select Access Profile > Settings and activity > Archive > Stories Archive.

You can then either share it by clicking ‘Share' to send a new story instance or mount it to your profile as a Story Highlight.

Directly unarchiving back to your live 24-hour story is not supported by Instagram.

Instead, you can go to your Story Archive from your profile menu, choose the expired clip, tap ‘More’ (the three dots), and choose ‘Share as Post' or ‘Share it again as a new story' to add new stickers and tags.
