What causes Discord Error 2012 and how can I fix it?

I keep getting Error 2012 whenever I try to watch my friends stream games or share their screen in a voice channel. The voice chat and audio seem to work fine, but the video either freezes or fails to load completely, eventually showing this specific error code.

Error 2012 means your internet or firewall is blocking the live video connection, even though audio gets through. To fix it, try turning off any VPNs or ad blockers. If that fails, go into your Voice and Video settings and disable Enable High Packet Priority to stabilise the connection.

Discord Error 2012 is a video stream timeout usually caused by network hiccups or VPN interference. To fix it, try turning off your VPN, disabling IPv6, or simply restarting your router. Just a heads-up: if you turn off your VPN, your connection won't be fully private while you chat!

Error 2012: WebRTC voice connection timed out, typically due to Discord not being able to make a reliable UDP socket with the voice server.

To quickly resolve this, request from a server admin to change the Voice Region in Server Settings > Voice Region to a closer area. In a private voice call, drop the voice call and resume it to automatically ping an alternate voice relay.

I have overcome this issue multiple times and it's through checking local network security. Discord's streaming ports are blocked by firewall, VPN, or anti-virus software.

Turn off your VPN or add Discord to the Windows Defender Exception list.Turn off VPN or add Discord to the exception list in Windows Defender. If this doesn't work, then clear the stale IP routes by flushing the DNS cache using Command Prompt (as an administrator) and restart the router: 'ipconfig /flushdns'.
