Can I use Dark Mode for Instagram DMs?

I usually use Instagram at night and the bright white background in my DMs is really harsh on my eyes. Is there a way to turn on Dark Mode specifically for Instagram messages?
 
Instagram has a Dark Mode, but it generally applies to the whole app rather than just DMs. You just have to change the settings.
Go to Settings, select Display & Brightness and then choose the Dark option. Instagram’s own settings can vary by app version, so if you see an Appearance option in Instagram, you can enable Dark Mode there instead. Unfortunately, there isn’t normally a setting to make only your DMs dark while keeping the rest of Instagram bright.
 
The short answer is no. You can't have only your Instagram DMs in dark mode. It's an app thing. If you choose dark mode, your entire app will be dark. However, you can customise your chat wallpaper. You can make it darker. This way, you might enjoy a slight feeling of dark mode.
